Urgent Appeal for Relief Fund Donation for Itanagar Tibetan families

Tibetan shops damaged by fire in the recent protest in Itanagar.

During protests in Itanagar and nearby town of Naharlagun in the state of Arunachal Pradesh on 22nd February, this year due to certain local issues, 19 shops taken on rent by the Tibetans in Naharlagun have been totally devastated by fire in the midst of protests. This unfortunate and tragic incident has affected 16 Tibetan families with a total of 62 dependent family members. It has left them both financially and emotionally traumatized. According to the report we have received from the concerned Tibetan Settlement Officer following the incident, they have suffered a huge loss in financial terms due to the total loss of their merchandise to fire. This incident has virtually deprived them of their life’s savings and rendered them totally helpless.

I therefore urgently request you to kindly donate funds so that our people who have fallen victim to this unfortunate and tragic incident could be reasonably supported to start a modest livelihood for their family. Your donation fund may be wired to the following bank account of the Department of Home (DoH) and with intimation on the amount transferred and the transferee’s name or that of the organization. Inquiry on the above matter and matters related to funding transfer could be sent to the Secretary, DoH at homesecretary@tibet.net.
