US President Donald Trump met Xi Jinping on his two-day State Visit Plus on Wednesday last week. The two imposing leaders with clashing agendas met upon bilateral ties and North Korea’s discussion. XI Jinping who has consolidated his power at the recently concluded 19th party congress left no stone unturned to receive Trump on a red carpet and military band reception, and dining inside the Forbidden City, the privilege that is an unprecedented honour for a US president.
Interestingly, the President Trump was careful about his rhetoric speech while addressing to the room of business leaders, he was instead praising China as a saying goes, “I don’t blame China-after all, who can blame a country for taking advantage of another country for the benefit of its citizens… I give China great credit.” Trump also promised to uphold ‘One China Policy’ during the ongoing 250 million dollars business deals worth.
In fact, there is a political motive to settle the strategic rivals despite showing bromance between the two leaders. The president Trump’s key issue of the China meeting is North Korea as he also visited Japan and South Korea in an effort to confront with North Korea.
However, China sent a special envoy Song Tao to North Korea, to develop the relations between two countries—a move set to enrage Washington. There are mixed feelings circulating in social media sites: Facebook and Twitter about the US president Trump’s meeting Xi Jinping. People are disappointed to see only business exchange between the two counterparts than coming together in promotion of diplomatic policy and peace around the world.
What will be the outcome of this meeting?
“Under Xi Jinping leadership the human rights situation has deteriorated and the president Trump failure to raise human rights during his visit to China give the Chinese government legitimacy as one of the worst human rights offenders,” Maya Wang, Human Rights Watch’s Hong Kong-based researcher, The Times of India-World.
