DHARAMSHALA: Refuting false media news that His Holiness the Dalai Lama is terminally ill, Personal physician to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Dr Tsetan Dorjee Sadutshang said the information is “absolutely false and rubbish”.

Speaking exclusively to Tibet TV today, he said, “His Holiness has been having a very very busy schedule. In fact, even in this month, he has been giving religious discourses on June 6, 7 and 8 continuously for three days to the youth”.

The Tibetan spiritual leader is currently in Lithuania for four-day teachings and talks, following which he will visit Riga, Latvia to give two-day teachings. After several days, he is set to leave again for Ladakh. His Holiness will have another visit to Europe in September.

“How can somebody who is terminally ill and is said to be having such serious medical condition, ever engage in such busy schedule; it defies common sense. I would term this as total fake news.

“Considering his age, someone going from 82 to 83, I don’t think an average person of that age can manage a schedule that he is managing,” said Dr Tsetan.

“I want to tell all the public and the ardent news readers that His Holiness is keeping very well considering his age and there is nothing to worry about”.

On June 18 last year, addressing a large gathering of Tibetans in San Diego, California, His Holiness has said that doctors in Rochester, Minnesota, found nothing left of a “small sign of cancer” in his prostate gland they had identified and treated two years before. “This time during the examination at the Mayo Clinic, they saw no trace of it. It is completely cured,” he said. “I arrived [at the clinic] on June 13, and a medical exam was done on the 14th…I was told that my health was very good,” His Holiness to Tibetans in San Diego.
