His Holiness the Dalai Lama is the essence of our being, we owe him a debt of gratitude: CTA President to Tibetans in New York

NEW YORK CITY:  Thousands of Tibetans took part in the 28th anniversary celebration of the conferment of Nobel Peace Prize on His Holiness the Dalai Lama in New York City.  The President of Central Tibetan Administration, Dr Lobsang Sangay Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile Khenpo Sonam Tenphel and Prof Raj Mohan Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi graced the celebration.

In his address to the public, President Dr Sangay highlighted the incredible contribution His Holiness the Dalai Lama has  made in advancing the Tibetan freedom struggle and in being the custodian of Tibetan cultural identity. President expressed his deep gratitude to His Holiness. He reminded that what ever Tibetans have achieved and whatever support Tibetans enjoy from the international community is all because of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s blessing and his effort. “His Holiness the Dalai Lama is the essence of our being, we owe him a debt of gratitude,” said Dr Sangay.

Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel, urged the Tibetan community to put into practice the profound teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in our daily lives.

Prof. Raj Mohan Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi who was the special guest on that occasion, said that although Mahatma Gandhi and His Holiness are two different individuals but they are an embodiment of each other for millions of people in this world.

In the afternoon, President Dr. Lobsang Sangay and Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel met with the Tibetan youths and students of Tibetan Language and Cultural School NY&NJ. They called on the young students to preserve Tibetan traditions and values by studying and practicing Tibetan language and culture.

Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel and Representative Ngodup Tsering also attended the launch of a book in memory of late Lui Xia Bao in the evening and encouraged Chinese friends to work towards the promotion of Liu Xiaobo’s vision for a free and democratic China.
