India can promote education of heart and mind: His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Mumbai

Mumbai: His Holiness the Dalai Lama gave a public talk on Ancient Indian Nalanda Tradition to over 2000 Indians, Tibetans and foreigners at the Somaiya Vidyavihar here in Mumbai this morning.

Greeting the audience, His Holiness the Dalai Lama said, “Dear respected elder brothers and sisters and then younger brothers and sisters. I always start using words brothers and sisters because in reality, 7 billion human beings are our brothers and sisters. According to either theistic or non-theistic everyone carries a same message of love and compassion.”

“We are having joyous day here but somewhere else in the world dies due to violence or starvation. Millions of people are suffering in Yeman and Africa that through human created problem. Therefore ap art from nature calamities, which is out of our control, every human created problem can be solved.” said His Holiness.

His Holiness mentioned about trust as a source to bring love and compassion towards one another. He urged people to bring a sense of oneness of 7 billion human beings.

“We have to create human compassion through maximum utilisation of human intelligence. Happy and compassionate individuals make happy families which make a happy society and finally a happy world,” the Nobel laureate said.

He reminded Indians to rigorously study the rich ancient Indian Nalanda knowledge which is more than 1000 years old. “India is the only country that can blend modern education of material values and ancient Indian knowledge to have better future for this world.”

“India has set an example of unity in diversity by shouldering different walks of life in one country with peacefully.” He remarked.

He further talked about his three main commitments to the promotion of love, peace and compassion to have better world.

“Nalanda knowledge is in Sanskrit are best preserved in Tibetan language. Therefore preservation of Tibetan language and Buddhist knowledge is not only a concern for 6 million Tibetans. China has become biggest Buddhist population in the world today.” he emphasised.

“In an article written by Chinese ecologist wrote Tibet as third pole. It shows that Tibetan environment is not only a concern of Tibetans alone. Major rivers flows from Tibet to other Asian countries. Therefore it is responsible for all of us to preserve it.”

A Q&A session followed after His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s public talk.

Samir Somaiya, President the grandson of the founder of Somaiya College thanked His Holiness the Dalai Lama for making this fourth visit as his family have three generation of relations with him.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama unveiled the statue of grandfather of Samir Somaiya at the beginning of public talk at Somaiya Vidyvihar.
