Canberra: The Tibet Information Office (also called Office of Tibet) in Canberra concluded its Year of Compassion English Essay Competition, held to commemorate the 90th birth anniversary of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. The event invited young Tibetans across Australia to reflect on the teachings of His Holiness and express what compassion means to them.
The competition featured two categories: a school-level division themed “What Compassion Means to Me: Lessons from His Holiness the Dalai Lama,” and a university-level division themed “His Holiness at 90: A Life of Compassion, A Message for the Future.”
All participants received certificates of appreciation, while the top three entrants in each category were awarded merit certificates and token cash prizes.
In the school-level category, Yangchen Lhamo from Canberra secured the top position. Tenzin Dalha, also from Canberra, placed first in the university-level category.
The awards were presented during official celebrations marking the 36th anniversary of conferment of the Nobel Peace Prize on His Holiness the Dalai Lama, with commemorative events held across Australia.
