5, 6, 15 July 2008: Serthar (Ch: Seda) County, Karze (Ch: Ganzi) “TAP” (incorporated into the Chinese province of Sichuan) – Three people arbitrarily arrested for their involvement in March protests

The county’s concerned Chinese authorities arrested Lhagyal from Gochok village, Tendhar from Kyil-ru village, and Soelo (or Solo) from Kangtsa village, all three villages in Serthar county, on 15, 5, 5/6 July respectively on charges of their involvement in March protests.

Karze (Ch: Ganzi) County, Karze “TAP”, Kham (incorporated into the Chinese province of Sichuan) – A woman dies from intense harassment

Kalsang Lhamo from Dura village in Karze county died on 27 June. It is reported that her death was caused by intense harassment by the Chinese authorities, arrest of her daughter Tsewang Khando (38, a nun of Dragkar nunnery), and the Chinese repression on the people of her village. Detailed information is not available.

Drakgo (Ch: Luhuo) County, Karze (Ch: Ganzi) “TAP”, Kham (incorporated into the Chinese province of Sichuan) – A group of Tibetans staged a peaceful protest

On 16 June, a group of Tibetans from Dhado township in Drakgo county shouted slogans while distributing pro-independence leaflets. The Chinese forces were not able to arrest the protesters as they have fled to the mountain after the protest. No detail information is available.

Karze (Ch: Ganzi) County, Karze “TAP”, Kham (incorporated into the Chinese province of Sichuan) – Two people severely injured and arrested for staging a peaceful protest

Lobsang (20), born in Chokri village in Drakgo county and his brother Dorjee (30) from Tsaklek village in Karze county staged a peaceful protest while distributing leaflets at the county government office at around 2:00 p.m. on 11 June. During the protest, they shouted slogans such as “Tibet belongs to Tibetans. His Holiness the Dalai Lama must be invited to Tibet.”

They were soon suppressed by the People’s Armed Police (PAP) resulting in a gun shot at Dorjee’s foot and then they were arrested.

Karze (Ch: Ganzi) County, Karze “TAP”, Kham (incorporated into the Chinese province of Sichuan) – Two arbitrarily arrested for staging a peaceful protest

Tashi Dorjee (19) from Gangteng village and Thupten Phuntsok from Phukyul Nang village, both in Karze county, were arrested in June by the Public Security Bureau (PSB) after they have peacefully protested against the Chinese government. It is reported that some other Tibetans were with them but their details are yet to be confirmed.

Ngaba (Ch: Aba) County, Ngaba “TAP”, Amdo (incorporated into the Chinese province of Sichuan) – Whereabouts of some arrestees are unknown

Whereabouts of 18 people from Lota township and five people from Akham or Akhyam township, both in Ngaba county, are unknown after their arrest this March.
