PALAMPUR: Health Kalon Mr Choekyong Wangchuk attended the 5th Anniversary function of Vivekananda Medical Institute, Palampur on 23 July, Sunday. The program started at 10.00 A.M in the compound of the institute with a brief introduction about the activities and achievements of the institution followed by brief speeches from the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour. Thereafter, a ceremonial lamp was lighted in front of a large portrait of Swami Vivekananda and tree saplings were planted.
Besides, medical professionals around Palampur and staff of the institute, the function had a gathering of important guests from Delhi and Chandigarh also. In his brief speech, Kalon expressed his pleasure on being able to attend the anniversary and extended CTA’s good wishes to the management and staff of the Institute. He hoped for the further engagements and cooperation for the betterment of the Tibetan peoples’ health in the nearby region. Health Kalon was accompanied by CTA Health Department’s Joint Secretary Mr Jampa Phuntsok.
Foundation stone for Vivekanand Medical Institute, which is a unit of Vivekanand Medical Research Trust was laid by His Holiness the Dalai Lama on 28 December 2002 and in 2013 VMI became operational. Medical camps on Gynecology & Obstetrics, Orthopedic Specialty Camp & bone mass density camp were jointly organised at Tibetan Public Health Centre, Bir.
